Congolese giants TP Mazembe have shown interest in signing former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United defender Justice Chabalala, FARPost has learnt.
Chabalala recently left Chippa, where he spent the past three seasons at the club. It was a second stint at the Betway Premiership for the 33-year-old.
The former Chippa captain, Chabalala, joined the Buccaneers in 2016 after impressing at the now-defunct Free State Stars.
After failing to secure regular game time at the club, Chabalala spent time on loan at a few clubs. This includes Bloemfontein Celtic and Sekhukhune United.
He was among the 18 players who were part of a major clear-out at Chippa United at the end of the season.
TP MAZEMBE INTERESTED IN SIGNING FORMER ORLANDO PIRATES DEFENDER
This publication has it on good authority that the five-time CAF Champions League winners have made contact with Chabalala’s camp. Chabalala, who is now a free agent, is also reportedly open to the move if the terms are favourable.
If the move materialises, Chabalala will be the first male player to play for the 20-time Congolese champions.

Mazembe will have competition from recently promoted Betway Premiership side Durban City FC, who are believed to be interested in the experienced player.
ANOTHER SOUTH AFRICAN TO PLAY IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO LEAGUE?
The other South African to feature for TP Mazembe is Kgalebane Mohlakoana, who plays for their ladies’ team.
Mohlakoana joined the Congolese Women’s Championship club last year and won the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Another South African who plays in the DRC is Mahlatse Makudubela. The former Orlando Pirates winger joined AS Vita Club last year. He signed an eight-month contract with a one-year option to extend.
Riyaad Norodien is another South African to have played in the DRC. The former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City FC winger spent a season at Motema Pembe in 2021.
