AmaZulu FC-bound striker shines on his Zim PSL swansong

AmaZulu FC bound striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya during a FC Platinum match

An AmaZulu FC-bound striker said goodbye to Zimbabwean PSL side FC Platinum in style on Saturday, netting a memorable goal in his final match.

Though AmaZulu FC are yet to confirm the striker’s signing, FARPost understands Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s services have been secured on a two-year contract.

His agent, Gibson Mahachi and a highly ranked FC Platinum official have confirmed the 22-year-old’s move to AmaZulu FC.

Barring any changes, the highly-rated forward is set to arrive in South Africa on Wednesday afternoon to complete his move to Usuthu.

He captured the attention of several Betway Premiership clubs, including Chippa United and Golden Arrows, during the 2025 COSAFA tournament in Bloemfontein, most recently.

Ngwenya has arguably had his best season since graduating to FC Platinum’s senior team in 2022. The speedy forward leaves the club at a time when he was their top goalscorer. Furthermore, FC Platinum is the only professional club he has played for.

After 18 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League matches, Ngwenya managed nine goals, one behind the leading scorers. And in an emotional farewell, he scored in his last match on Saturday as they drew 1-1 with 2024 league champions, Simba Bhora FC.

THANDOLWENKOSI NGWENYA’S PEN EMOTIONAL FAREWELL LETTER AS HE IS BOUND TO JOIN AMAZULU FC

Ngwenya penned an emotional letter, bidding farewell to FC Platinum. In addition, he paid tribute to ex-Chippa United coach Norman Mapeza, who honed his skills at FC Platinum.

“As I stand here today, my heart is torn between the excitement of new horizons and the ache of leaving behind the only home I’ve ever known, FC Platinum,” said Ngwenya.

“From the tender age of a young boy, this team has been my sanctuary, my driving force, and my family. Every triumph, every setback, every sweat-drenched training session. And every triumphant victory has shaped me into the player I am today.

“Leaving you, my mother team, feels like a part of me is being ripped away. The thought of not being able to share the pitch with my brothers, to hear the chants of ‘Plasto’ echoing through the stadium, to feel the rush of adrenaline as we take the field together, it’s a pain that cuts deep.

“But even in the midst of this heartache, I’m filled with gratitude. Gratitude for the unwavering support, the unrelenting push to reach new heights. In addition, the unconditional love that has been my guiding light.

“Home will always be home. And though I’ll roam far and wide, a part of me will forever remain here, wrapped in the memories of FC Platinum.

“Thank you for being my everything. The African Dream may be calling, but my heart will always beat for Plasto. In addition, much Thanks to be Best Team In Zimbabwe MaPlatso [FC Platinum]. And special thanks to coach Norman Mapeza.”
