Roger de Sa to replace Ernst Middendorp at CT Spurs

Roger de Sa appears poised to replace Ernst Middendorp at Cape Town Spurs, while the German is close to taking a role with Durban City FC in the Betway Premiership.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach, Middendorp, is expected to join the newly promoted side, Durban City, as technical director, working alongside Gavin Hunt, who is slated to be the head coach.

CT Spurs are in a fierce battle to avoid a second consecutive relegation, aiming to retain their spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The club first dropped from the Premiership in the 2023/24 season, and then again failed to escape the axe in the second-tier league during the recently concluded 2024/25 season.

The club is preparing another legal challenge against their relegation. The veteran mentor, Middendorp, previously oversaw their drop from the Betway Premiership and has now relegated them again to the third tier after they finished 15th last season.

In a show of their intent to remain in the professional leagues, CT Spurs have reached an agreement with the experienced De Sa to become head coach.

EX-ORLANDO PIRATES COACH DE SA TAKES REIGNS AT CAPE TOWN SPURS

The former Orlando Pirates and Egypt National Team assistant will lead the team in the 2025/26 season.

De Sa, now 60, was with relegated Cape Town City as assistant coach to Diogo Peral in the recently concluded season.

He joined after the sacking of Eric Tinkler and Muhsin Ertugral to assist Peral. Despite their efforts, the team finished bottom of the 15-team Betway Premiership and struggled in the promotion/relegation playoffs, failing to secure a single win in four matches.

CT Spurs have commenced pre-season activities, with De Sa officially introduced as the new head coach.
