Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sammy Seabi looks set to join Chippa United on a free transfer for the upcoming 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
The gritty defensive midfielder arrives at the Eastern Cape club after spending part of last season with Polokwane City FC, following a four-year stint with the Brazilians.
The 30-year-old’s arrival comes as the Chilli Boys undergo a significant restructuring. The club has appointed Sinesipho Mali, a youthful sporting director, to spearhead their recruitment. Mali has already brought in Sinethemba Badela as head coach, with Musa Nyatama joining as his assistant.
These changes have led to a mass exodus of players, with as many as 18 players shown the exit door. Notable departures include Andile Jali, who had a challenging season in his home province, as well as Justice Chabalala, Bienvenu Eva Nga, Craig Martin, and goalkeeper Darren Johnson.
SAMMY SEABI’S EXPERIENCE COULD BE KEY

With a proper pre-season under his belt, Seabi is poised for a strong showing as he returns to the Chilli Boys. His experience, including winning multiple titles, could prove invaluable, especially within a revitalised and younger squad.
Seabi began his professional career by making a name for himself at Polokwane City in 2016. He spent three years there, making 79 appearances and scoring four goals, before earning a move to Sundowns in 2019.
During his time with Sundowns, he was part of the squad that clinched the 2019/20 League title, the 2019 Nedbank Cup, and the 2019 Telkom Knockout.
However, finding a consistent starting spot at Masandawana proved challenging. The following year, he was loaned to Moroka Swallows, where he made 18 appearances.
He then had another brief stint at Chippa United before settling at Sekhukhune United in 2022, where he featured in 20 matches and scored once.
Meanwhile, Chippa United have signed Eswatini international Justice Figuareido, with Thabiso Kutumela also expected to join the squad. Khaya Mfecane has also joined the club on a free transfer from Cape Town Spurs.
