As Algerian giant MC Alger looks to replace Khaled Ben Yahia, who officially stepped down following the expiry of his contract, they have shortlisted Manqoba Mngqithi.
The Tunisian coach replaced Patrice Amir Beaumelle in late December, following a mutual agreement to part ways. The club’s management terminated the Frenchman’s contract after a 1-0 home defeat to Sudanese side Al-Hilal Club last Saturday during the third round of Group A in the CAF Champions League.
Beaumelle had been in charge since March 2023, guiding them to the 2023/24 league title. Ben Yahia was at the helm for only 195 days, overseeing 28 games, including two against Orlando Pirates.
He was in charge when the team lost 1-0 at home and played a goalless draw at Orlando Stadium, resulting in a quarterfinal exit from the Champions League.
Overall, he recorded 14 wins, 11 draws, and three losses. During his tenure, he led the team to both the league title and the Super Cup, marking the second consecutive season they won the league. Ben Yahia has now departed along with his technical staff.

COULD MANQOBA MNGQITHI CONSIDER THE MC ALGER MOVE?
The 54-year-old Mnqgithi possesses the experience Mouloudia Club d’Alger is seeking. His ten-year tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns provided him with valuable experience in continental football, an area where the Algerian club aims to establish dominance.
They are back in the Champions League after narrowly winning the league title, pipping JS Kabylie by just two points. Mnqgithi assisted Pitso Mosimane at Sundowns for 301 games before becoming co-coach alongside Rulani Mokwena. He subsequently assisted Mokwena before returning to lead Masandawana at the start of last season.
The UEFA A license holder boasts five league titles and three major domestic trophies on his résumé. During his first stint with Golden Arrows, his current club, he guided them to the MTN8 title.
Additionally, Mngqithi was part of Mosimane’s technical team when they secured the 2016 Champions League and CAF Super Cup victories with Sundowns. Currently, Mngqithi is preparing Arrows for the upcoming season after joining them towards the end of last season.
