Motsepe Foundation Championship side University of Pretoria has made a decision on the future of striker Thamsanqa Gabuza after his contract with the club expired.

The former Orlando Pirates striker joined AmaTuks in January on a short-term deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.

However, Gabuza did not enjoy much game time at AmaTuks, only making a handful of appearances for the club, which finished 10th in the league and failed to secure promotion to the Betway Premiership.

AMATUKS AND THAMSANQA GABUZA PART WAYS

AmaTuks have officially parted ways with Gabuza ahead of the upcoming season.

This publication has gathered that the club’s failure to secure promotion contributed to their decision to release the veteran striker. The former TS Galaxy forward is now a free agent, and it remains to be seen which club he will join.

AmaTuks recently returned to training under the guidance of Kwanele Kopo, assisted by Willy Machete Moloto, without the striker.

Another notable absentee in the AmaTuks squad is goalkeeper Ayanda Dlamini. Dlamini joined AmaTuks ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. He featured in 10 matches in the previous campaign.

NEW COACH KWANELE KOPO EXPLAINS WHY HE HAS BROUGHT IN AN EXPERIENCED ASSISTANT

Meanwhile, Kopo has also explained why he roped in former Polokwane City FC coach Willy Machete Moloto as his assistant.

“We just stole him, if I may say, from Marumo Gallants. He was the head coach of the DDC team, but a very experienced coach. Moloto has worked for Polokwane City, and a lot of the players that you see coming from Polokwane City, [Rodney] Maphangule, [Simon] Ramabu and a lot of players came through him; he has been responsible for that programme of unearthing that talent.

He has worked in the National First Division. So I was discussing with the CEO that the person I am bringing as an assistant is not a favour. Itโ€™s somebody who is experienced and someone who adds value.”
