Ex-Bafana Bafana and Bidvest Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi is trying his luck at the new PSL club Siwelele FC. The experienced centre-back has started training with Siwelele, intending to impress and get a contract.
Mkhwanazi has been away from competitive football in the SA top-flight since parting ways with SuperSport United in 2022.
The 35-year-old left SuperSport in dramatic fashion after claiming that God showed him the danger of taking the COVID-19 vaccine, which was made mandatory by the club.
Mkhwanazi joined the Tshwane-based side at the start of the 2021/22 season on a free transfer after Bidvest Wits sold their status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC [TTM].
During his six-season stay at Wits, Mkhwanazi played a major role, featuring in over 150 games across all competitions. He scored 10 goals.
He was also instrumental in the Clever Boys winning their first-ever league title in the 2016/17 campaign under head coach Gavin Hunt.
MKHWANAZI HAD A SHORT SPELL WITH HIGHBURY FC LAST SEASON
Since the sale of Wits, Mkhwanazi experienced a dip in his career, struggling to find a solid home. In the previous season, Mkhwanazi joined the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Highbury FC; however, he was unable to make a meaningful impact.

Interestingly, the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender has resurfaced at Siwelele, a club that recently bought the status of SuperSport.
A source close to the developments has revealed that Mkhwanazi is part of the players being assessed by the club as they prepare for the upcoming season.
“Buhle Mkhwanazi has been training with Siwelele FC since they bought the top-flight status,” a source told FARPost.
“I’m sure he would be looking to impress and get a contract. I’m sure in the next few days we’ll know the decision on whether the club is signing him or not.”
