Durban City FC exodus continues as more players have reportedly parted ways with the club following its promotion to the Betway Premiership.

โ€˜The Citizensโ€™, as the club is called, is going through a significant restructuring ahead of the upcoming season after ascending to the top-flight.

The KZN side first made a coaching change, parting ways with Simo Dladla, who guided the club to promotion. Stepping into his shoes was the highly experienced Gavin Hunt, who came in with a refreshed technical team to lead the team forward.

Further bolstering their leadership, the club has appointed Ernst Middendorp as Technical Director, the German coach who returns to the club, having previously served as head coach when they were still known as Maritzburg United.

And as previously reported by this website, Durban City released two key players – Joslin Kamatuka and Ruzaigh Gamildien, who were instrumental in their promotion last season.

PLAYERS WHOโ€™RE SAID TO HAVE BEEN RELEASED BY DURBAN CITY

According to FARPost sources, goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi, previously with SuperSport United, and former Golden Arrows defender Siyavuya Ndlovu are among the players no longer seen with the team.

Other players who didnโ€™t return include Xolani Slawula, Sifiso Mbidane, Victor Bakah, Sanele Gaxa, Musa Nkosi, Mbuso Mdakane, Mphakamiseni Nene and Siphamandla Mbidane.

The aforementioned players have not been seen in the club’s training sessions or participating in the pre-season friendly matches, strongly suggesting their departure from the newly promoted side.

โ€œAfter seeing a number of training sessions and friendly matches of the club, I have not seen a majority of the players who promoted the club. The players mentioned here were removed from the team’s WhatsApp group,โ€ said a source.

โ€œThey have been sidelined after promoting the club back to top-flight football, and one raises concern as their contracts had expired in June 2025.โ€
