Stellenbosch FC have bid farewell to their key defender Fawaaz Basadien following his transfer to reigning Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Bafana Bafana international completed a move to Sundowns, ending all speculations around his future. Basadien was one of the most talked-about players in the past few transfer windows, having produced impressive performances at Stellies.
The talented left-back established himself as one of the key players at Stellenbosch, which earned him recognition from Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
Basadien spent three seasons with the Winelands-based side after signing at the start of the 2022/23 season from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows.
During his successful spell with Stellenbosch, Basadien made over 100 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and contributing 18 assists.
The 28-year-old also played a crucial role when Stellenbosch won their first-ever trophy in the SA top-flight after clinching the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup.
After proving his defensive and attacking qualities as a left-back, Basadien joined Sundowns ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The highly-rated defender is Miguel Cardoso’s first signing in the current transfer window as Sundowns aim to compete for all major trophies.
