Stellenbosch FC defender Fawaaz Basadien has addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding his future, amid strong links to Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates.
The 28-year-old left-back has been a pivotal figure for Stellenbosch. This past season, he made 46 appearances, netting seven goals and providing eight assists.
Basadien’s contributions were instrumental in the team reaching the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals, where they were ultimately knocked out by Tanzania’s Simba SC.
In the recently concluded Betway Premiership season, Basadien played a key role in helping Steve Barker’s side secure a third-place finish with 48 points from 28 games. This strong performance ensures that Stellenbosch will once again compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

While Basadien harbours ambitions of joining a “big team” in the future to further his growth and development, he stressed his immediate focus remains squarely on Stellenbosch FC and his daily personal improvement.
“For me, it is to focus on what I can control. Obviously, all the rumours and stuff are nice to have as a player. But my main focus is to use whatever opportunity I get to play and keep doing what I do and keep improving every day,” said Basadien.
“So, whatever happens in the background is just part of the rumours that have been created. But for me, in football, comes a time where you want to achieve greater things, maybe play for the so-called big teams or make big moves.”
He added: “It’s about timing, when the time is right for you. But my main focus is not wanting to move now, obviously, I would like it, but my main thing is to keep playing and improving.”
At this moment, it remains unclear whether the talented defender will leave Stellenbosch ahead of the new campaign.
