After being linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the past few seasons, AmaZulu FC defender Riaan Hanamub has reflected on missing out on the big move.

The Namibian international has been one of the key players for Usuthu, delivering standout performances in the left-back position.

Hanamub joined AmaZulu at the start of the 2022/23 Betway Premiership season from Chippa United and established himself as a regular starter.

In his three seasons with AmaZulu, Hanamub has featured in 94 matches in all competitions. He scored one goal and provided 10 assists.

His qualities in defence and attack have made him one of the most sought left-backs in the PSL in the previous transfer windows. Hanamub attracted interest from Soweto giants, Chiefs and Pirates; however, the move to either team could not materialise.

After the interest cooled off, the former Jomo Cosmos star has admitted that it’s every player’s dream to play for Chiefs and Pirates.

“My duty as a player is to make sure that I give my best in every game that I’m playing,” Hanamub said at the MTN8 launch in Johannesburg most recently.

“You know, in football, everything happens for a reason, and obviously, it’s everyone’s dream to play for the big teams in the country.

“Right now, I’m here at AmaZulu. I’m content and happy because the club welcomed me with open arms, and AmaZulu is like home away from home for me.

“The teams [Chiefs and Pirates] have approached me, but you know, there are ways of doing things. I have an agent, and they’ve approached the agent.

Meanwhile, Hanumub and his AmaZulu teammates will open their season with an MTN8 quarter-final match against Stellenbosch FC at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, 03 August. Kickoff is at 15h00.
