Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC star Junior Mendieta has joined a new club following his departure from Saudi Arabian side Al-Faisaly.
The highly-rated attacker made his name in the Betway Premiership in the colours of Stellies, making a massive impact in scoring and creating goals.
Mendieta arrived in the PSL in 2020 to join Stellenbosch and quickly established himself as one of the most-talked-about players in South African football.
The Argentine international went on to make 79 appearances for the Maroons, scoring 15 goals and contributing 15 assists in his three-season spell at the club.
Mendietaโs best season with Stellenbosch was in the 2022/23 where he scored 10 goals and chipped in with nine assists in 31 matches across all competitions.
His impressive run of form earned him a move to Sundowns at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. But the 32-year-old struggled to make a big impact at the Brazilians after netting only two goals in 29 appearances, where he was mostly used as a second-half substitute.
MENDIETA SPENT ONE SEASON WITH MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
After having a limited output at Sundowns, Mendieta left the club after one season to explore other opportunities in Europe.
In his stint with Masandawana, the skilful midfielder won the domestic league title and the African Football League [AFL].

Mendieta joined Volos FC in Greece to search for regular playing minutes and bring his career back on track. At Volos, he played 15 league games and hit the back of the net four times.
Interestingly, Mendieta also left the Greece outfit side after one season to join Al-Faisaly in the second division of Saudi Arabia. In preparation for the 2025/26 season, Mendieta has returned to the Greek top division after signing with Asteras Tripolis.
Following his unveiling at the new club on Friday, the talented attacker expressed his desire of wanting to continue his growth in Greek football.
โIโm very happy with the opportunity I am given to play for Asteras, at the same time I am grateful to the people in the team,โ Mendieta said on the club website.
โI have a lot of desire to continue developing in the Greek football and I will give my best to the club, fans, and the entire team.โ
