Baroka FC boss Khurishi Mphahlele has explained the signing of well-travelled midfielder Thato Mokeke on a deal until the end of the season.
The former Cape Town City FC and SuperSport United player is the latest addition to the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.
He joins the likes of former Royal AM goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto, who was also recently unveiled by the club.
Other new signings include Siyabonga Villane [striker], Gift Muvhali [right-back], Thapelo Makuwa [left-back], Morris Buthane [midfielder], Reshoketswi Mantjane [winger], Tetelo Lekwatsipa [midfielder], Harris Seoka [right-back] and Moseki Shongoane [defender].
KHURISHI MPHAHLELE JUSTIFIES THE SIGNING OF VETERAN MIDFIELDER THATO MOKEKE
“He is a very good and talented player with experience. He is the best midfielder in the country,” Mphahlele told FARPost.
However, Mphahlele rubbished the suggestion that Mokeke is a direct replacement for talented midfielder Sydney Malivha. Malivha was recently signed by Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United.
“I wouldn’t compare him with Malivha because he [Malivha] is not as experienced and he is still young. But this one is experienced and has everything.”

MORE SIGNINGS FOR MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE BAROKA FC AHEAD OF THE NEW SEASON
Mphahlele further told this publication that they are not yet done with signings and more arrivals can be expected soon.
“We are not done this season; we are still going to sign. The signing of Mokeke means we now have 24 players. So we still have room for new additions.”
Meanwhile, Baroka, in partnership with SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Ditlou FC will host open trials. The trials are set to take place on Sunday, 3 and Monday, 4 August at the Laerskool Stadium in Marble Hall, Limpopo.
Baroka will kick off their 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship season on the weekend of 22 August.
