Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has addressed and clarified his previous remarks from last season regarding the need for “Kaizer Chiefs-level players” within his squad.
The Tunisian coach was speaking with journalists at the launch of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, which is scheduled to kick off this coming weekend.
Amakhosi will begin their league campaign with an away clash against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday, August 10, at Athlone Stadium with kick-off set for 5:30 PM.
When asked if the club’s recent acquisitions had brought the team closer to his desired level, coach Nabi clarified his previous concerns regarding the lack of players he wanted at his disposal.
Last season, Nabi said the Chiefs project required players with certain qualities. He specifically highlighted the need for powerful players who could shoot in the final third of the pitch.
WHAT NABI SAID LAST SEASON
“We feel like up top we have same kind of players, who like to dribble and play in short spaces. But we lack a little bit of power and players who can shoot and make decisions,” said Nabi.

“We need to get those players in the future. You know the level of Kaizer Chiefs? I want to play for the level of Kaizer Chiefs. We hope that the Christmas gift will be the players that can strengthen the team. But we will do everything with what we have to get better results.”
Nabi says his remarks were misinterpreted, and he did not intend to suggest that he had a lack of talented players. Instead, he wanted to stress the importance of acquiring players who aligned with his game model.
CHIEFS COACH – ‘MAYBE I WAS MISUNDERSTOOD’
“What I said last season, maybe I was a little bit misunderstood, I wanted to emphasise that I was looking for profiles that could fit in my model game, but not that I didn’t have good players,” said Nabi on Tuesday in Sandton.
“I wanted just to clarify that. The second thing is, we are heading into the new season with new players. The management has tried its best to get us players.
“We’ll give them time and see in the future if we have made good decisions depending on how they fit in the team and in the model game.”
