PSL confirm venue change for Chiefs vs Stellenbosch clash

Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs in the league

With a few days left before the start of the new Betway Premiership season, PSL has confirmed the venue change for the clash between Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs.

Amakhosi will play their first match of the season in the league after failing to qualify for the MTN8 that kicked off the 2025/26 campaign last weekend.

The Soweto giants finished the last season in the ninth position, missing out on the top eight finish for the second season in a row.

Chiefs had a turbulent run in the league under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi, who took over the hot seat in July 2024. With Nabi aiming for an improved showing in his second season at the helm, Chiefs went on a pre-season tour in the Netherlands to prepare the team for the tough challenge ahead.

Meanwhile, Chiefs went into the transfer market to sign several players in a bid to strengthen their squad and improve on the disappointment of last season.

The Glamour Boys signed Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Paseka Mako, and Thabiso Monyane.

Chiefs will travel to the Western Cape to face a tricky Stellenbosch side in a league match that promises to be an entertaining affair.

In the previous season, Chiefs completed a league double over Stellies after defeating them home and away. The Winelands-based side is coming into the match against Chiefs with their tails high after beating AmaZulu FC 3-2 in the MTN8 quarter-final this past weekend.

Stellenbosch booked a spot in the two-legged semi-final, where they face Sekhukhune United, while Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will contest the other fixture.

With Stellenbosch and Chiefs initially scheduled to lock horns at the DHL Stadium, the PSL has announced that the match will now take place at Athlone Stadium. The two teams will clash on Sunday, 10 August, with kick-off scheduled for 17:30.

In addition, Chiefs will miss the services of Pule Mmodi against Stellenbosch after receiving a red card in the penultimate round of the 2024/25 season.
