Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef addressed Ashley Du Preez’s injury, which the player sustained during the league tie against Stellenbosch FC, saying the club has “one of the best doctors in SA.”

Du Preez suffered an injury in the 80th minute of Sunday’s Betway Premiership match against Stellenbosch FC at a packed Athlone Stadium in Cape Town following a collision with an opponent.

The 28-year-old attacker had come on as a substitute for young striker Naledi Hlongwane in the 57th minute of the game.

The Soweto giants secured a 2-0 victory, with goals from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Godly Lilepo in their opening game of the new 2025/26 season. This win placed Chiefs third on the Premiership log after matchday one in the league.

The Glamour Boys’ assistant coach  Ben Youssef is hopeful that Du Preez will be available for their next league game. However, the coach also stated that they will consult the team doctor to assess the severity of the injury.

“You know, it’s difficult to give you an update now because we have to check with our team doctor. There was contact in the 80th minute, and we had finished our substitutions, so we couldn’t make another substitution,” said Ben Youssef.

“We have one of the best doctors in South Africa, and I think they will do all the necessary work to make sure he comes back. I believe he will be able to play in our next game.”

Chiefs’ next league assignment will be against the Limpopo club Polokwane City FC on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.

The game between Amakhosi and the Rise and Shine will take place at FNB Stadium in Soweto, with the kick-off set for 19:30.
