Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has provided an update on Nasreddine Nabi’s compassionate leave, revealing when the head coach is expected to return.

The former Young Africans SC mentor missed Chiefs’ first three matches in the new 2025/26 Betway Premiership season following an emergency involving his wife in Tunisia.

Nabi left the country just a few hours before Amakhosi’s opening match of the campaign against Stellenbosch FC, where Amakhosi claimed a convincing 2-0 victory.

The Glamour Boys went on to win against Polokwane City FC and Richards Bay FC with a 1-0 scoreline, making it three wins in their first three matches of the season.

Chiefs’ perfect start to the season saw them collect nine points to occupy the second spot on the league table. They have the same number of points as Sekhukhune United; however, Babina Noko are sitting at the summit of the log die to their superior goal difference.

In the absence of Nabi, assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have been leading the Soweto giants. The teamย has shown an impressive form after netting four goals in three games and keeping three clean sheets.

In the absence of Nabi for the past few weeks, Ben Youssef has revealed that the highly-rated coach will return this week, and he will be on the bench against Mamelodi Sundowns next Wednesday.

The Soweto giants will welcome Sundowns at FNB Stadium on the 27th of August, aiming to collect maximum points and maintain their rich vein of form.

“Coach Nabi will be with us this week to prepare for the next game against Mamelodi Sundowns,” Ben Youssef said.

The Tunisian coach is in his second season with Chiefs, having taken over the hot seat in July 2024 from AS FAR in Morocco.

Last season, Nabi managed to end the club’s 10-year trophy drought after winning the 2025 Nedbank Cup in May against rivals Orlando Pirates.
