Durban City FC have signed talented midfielder Luphumlo ‘Kaka’ Sifumba on a permanent deal from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City FC, FARPost has been informed.

The 20-year-old spent the latter part of last season on loan at Portuguese club FC Vizela. Although Vizela expressed interest in a permanent transfer, the deal fell through.

Following Cape Town City’s relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Kaka has not featured for them this season. The club has had a difficult start, with two draws and one loss in their first three games.

Eager for more playing time, the midfielder had been seeking a move. The two clubs have been in negotiations for weeks and finally reached an agreement that will see him join the KwaZulu-Natal side.

This publication recently reported that Sifumba was training with the Durban club under the supervision of head coach Gavin Hunt, and sources indicate he has now been offered a two-year deal with an option to extend for a third year.

KAKA SIFUMBA WILL BE HOPING TO PLAY REGULAR FOOTBALL AT CITY

After his struggles to consistently play at Cape Town City, he will be hoping for a change of fortunes this time around. He gained promotion to the first team in the 2021/22 season after sparkling in the DStv Diski Challenge.

With the aim of retaining their top-tier league status, Durban City have taken the transfer market by storm. The newly promoted side has navigated through various tiers of South African football, recruiting around 15 new players from different age groups.

In KZN, ‘Kaka’ will reunite with his former teammates Darren Keet, Haashim Domingo, Thabo Nodada and Patrick Autata. The club, formerly known as Maritzburg United, also signed Fredrick Asare, Liam de Kock, Brooklyn Poggenpoel, Letsie Koapeng, Bokang Mokwena, Jean Lwamba, Siphelele Mthembu, Taahir Goedeman, Kyle Jurgens, and Fezile Gcaba.
