Sundowns defender inks loan deal with Siwelele

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Kegan Johannes has inked a loan deal with Siwelele FC on deadline day, joining the club for the remainder of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Johannes left Sundowns to search for regular game-time after struggling to break into the star-studded starting line-up. The 24-year-old signed with Masandawana from the now-defunct SuperSport United, who sold their top-flight status to Siwelele in the off-season.

After arriving at Sundowns in July 2024, Johannes, who can play as a centre-back, left-back, and central midfielder, only featured in six appearances across all competitions.

The former SA junior international was one of the promising players before joining Sundowns, where he disappeared from competitive football due to a lack of playing minutes.

With the transfer window closing on Monday, 22 September, Johannes has completed a loan move to Siwelele to work under the guidance of Lehlohonolo Seema.

SIWELELE ANNOUNCE THE ACQUISITION OF JOHANNES

As previously reported by FARPost, Johannes is part of the several new faces that will arrive at Siwelele after their chairman, Calvin Le John, announced the imminent beefing up of the squad.

The Bloemfontein-based side has been in the news in the past few hours after parting ways with the experienced CEO Stan Matthews and assistant coach Andre Arendse.

Le John also revealed that his club will release a number of players who he says didn’t show enough commitment to represent the team.

On Monday afternoon, Siwelele announced the acquisition of Johannes. “Welcome, our new defender, Kegan Johannes. He’s green and white,” the club said on social media.

In addition, Siwelele have faced backlash from the South African Football Players’ Union, arguing that they are disrespecting professional footballers. SAFPU offered to assist the discarded Matthews and Arendse, should they need any assistance regarding their dismissal from the club.
