Banyana Banyana stalwart Janine van Wyk has secured a new overseas coaching position, having been appointed as the assistant coach for Sweden’s Kristianstads DFF for the 2026 campaign.
Kristianstads DFF competes in the Damallsvenskan league, which is the highest division of women’s football in Sweden. This opportunity marks van Wyk’s first coaching role abroad following her transition from professional player last year.
Van Wyk officially retired last December after achieving a monumental African record as the footballer [male or female] with the most international caps. She surpassed former Egyptian international Ahmed Hassan’s long-standing record of 184 caps. She ended her career representing Banyana Banyana with a remarkable 185 appearances.
Following her retirement, she was appointed as the assistant coach of JVW FC in the Hollywoodbets Super League, a club she co-founded, and later became the head coach.
Van Wyk holds a UEFA B coaching Licence, having completed her coaching course with the Scottish Football Association – [Scottish FA] in November 2022.

KRISTIANSTADS DFF’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON JANINE VAN WYK’S APPOINTMENT
The Swedish side Kristianstads DFF expressed their delight at securing the services of the former Banyana Banyana captain. The club believes Van Wyk’s experience and winning mentality will be instrumental in helping them achieve greater things.
“Kristianstad DFF has today [Thursday] added the position of assistant coach to our representative team for the 2026 season. As an assistant coach, we have hired Janine van Wyk who has international merit as a player. She is closest from the role of head coach of JVW FC- Hollywoodbets in the South African League. Warm welcome to Kristianstad and KDFF Janine,” said the club in the statement.
In the current campaign, the club is currently placed fifth in their league log standings. They have accumulated 34 points from 20 outings.
