Cape Town Spurs have turned to familiar faces as they rebuild for life in the ABC Motsepe League, appointing two former Bafana Bafana internationals to lead the club’s revival.
Following the departure of Ernst Middendorp and his assistant Benson Mhlongo after the club’s dramatic relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship, CT Spurs have named Nassief Morris as their new head coach, with Tyren Arendse as his assistant.
CT Spurs are banking on the expertise of former pros, Morris and Arendse, to guide the club out of the second tier and secure a return to the PSL.
Club CEO Alexi Efstathiou said the decision was based on both men’s understanding of the CT Spurs identity.

“Morris was the assistant coach to Shaun Bartlett when we got promoted to the Betway Premiership,” Efstathiou told FARPost.

“So he has been at the club and understands the club’s culture. He was available, so we thought we should bring him in, and he understands the Cape Town players.
“His assistant, Arendse, has been with the club for around three years. They also played together at Santos. It is a good combination for them to work together,” Efstathiou added.
Morris is no stranger to the lower divisions, having previously coached Steenberg United, Ikapa Sporting, and The Magic FC, while also leading the University of Cape Town women’s team in his most recent role.
Arendse, meanwhile, started coaching at the club in the U16 ranks before taking charge of the DStv Diski Challenge team and the ABC Motsepe developmental team over the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League will kick off this weekend with the Nedbank Cup Playoffs.
CT Spurs will be away to Batalions FC in Mbekeni, Paarl, on Sunday, 19 October at 15:00.
