Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC has appointed former AmaTuks head coach Tlisane Motaung, with Matsemela Thoka as his assistant for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Motaung has been without a job after parting ways with the University of Pretoria at the end of last season.
Under his leadership, AmaTuks reached the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs twice, in both the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons.
He also led AmaTuks to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals on two occasions, where they faced defeats against Royal AM in 2021 and against neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns in 2024.
Motaung was spotted in the stands when Baroka FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to his former club on Saturday in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
WHO ARE THE OTHER COACHES THAT BAROKA FC APPROACHED?
The search for a new coach at the Limpopo club comes in the wake of the suspension of head coach Dan Malesela. The well-travelled coach experienced a string of poor results after five matches without a win.
Baroka lost 2-0 to the University of Pretoria, 2-0 to Milford FC, a 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Gomora United, a 1-1 draw with Casric Stars, and a 1-0 loss to Highbury FC.

As FARPost also reported on Monday, former Kruger United and Upington City FC coach Abram Mangoya was also earmarked for the job. Mangoya is reportedly facing an exit door at Upington, where he has been in charge.
Current head coach at The Bees, Humphrey Mlwane, was also spotted at the Mafori Village on Monday. And as this publication had reported, the deal between Mlwane and the club appeared to be sealed until a U-turn at the eleventh hour.
WHAT LIES AHEAD FOR THE NEW COACH AT MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE
Motaung’s first task will be a tough league match away to Hungry Lions on Saturday, 25 October. This will be followed by another tough away encounter against Upington City on Tuesday, 28 October.
The club was expected to make an official announcement on Tuesday afternoon ahead of a training session in Lebowakgomo.
