Former PSL player Kgaogelo Sekgota has opened up about his move to the SAFA ABC Motsepe League, where he now features for Limpopo-based club Tubatse United in Burgersfort Town.

His last professional club was Magesi FC, where he was part of the team that won the 2024 Carling Knockout Cup under the guidance of coach Clinton Larsen.

The 28-year-old joined Magesi after stints at Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership. He was recently with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC but left the club without making any appearances.

Sekgota has also featured for Vitoria de Setubal in Portugal and FC Stumbras in Lithuania.

He recently completed a four-month stay at the Hope of Achievers Rehabilitation Centre outside Polokwane, where he sought treatment for his battle with alcohol. He has since confirmed his recovery from the addiction.

HOW KGAOGELO SEKGOTA IS FINDING LIFE IN THE ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE

“I played in the ABC Motsepe League when I was 17. So I am just reflecting myself back to where I started,” Sekgota told FARPost.

“It helps me mentally to grind more deeply. To be hungry. I get my hunger again. I needed this struggle because people think when you make mistakes, they think you do them intentionally.

“So it’s not a bad thing for me to grind deep, to prove myself or maybe to make those who lost hope in me, believe again. I think it’s the right choice for me.”

“This team has a good project. So I feel like I am in the right space. You don’t have to be in the PSL or NFD to play football, which is something that you love.

“I know that I should have been there, I could have been there and I must be there. So why, if I know that I can do something, then I rush to do it.”
