Appollis confirms Sipho Mbule pushed for his Orlando Pirates signing

Sipho Mbule with Oswin Appollis of Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis has confirmed that his teammate Sipho Mbule played a role in pushing for his move to the Buccaneers. The two players joined the Soweto giants during the August transfer window, with Mbule arriving first.

Their relationship dates back to their formative years in the SuperSport United development ranks. While their careers took them to different clubs, the 24-year-old attacker confirmed that they consistently maintained contact.

This season has seen them reunited at Pirates, and Mbule himself partially initiated the move, as Appollis confirms.

APPOLLIS: “HE DID TELL THE CHAIRMAN…”

“Yes, he did that, he did tell the chairman that [asked for me to come to Pirates],” Appollis confirmed. He went on to reveal that the ‘Master Chef’ remained a supportive figure even when he was playing for Polokwane City.

“But we came from SuperSport already and created a small bond. Even when I went to Polokwane, he always checked up on me to see if I’m okay,” Appollis added.

He also offered a glimpse into the 27-year-old Mbule’s personality: “He’s always been funny, and there’s something that people don’t know about him, he likes playing FIFA. So that’s the one thing I have always done, playing FIFA. The character you see he’s always been having it.”

He expressed his delight at seeing Mbule being named to the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2025 AFCON.

“I think as a player, especially for S’phola, I think the more you put in the hard work, eventually you’ll get rewarded,” the former Polokwane City winger added. “And that is something that has been happening now. I’m happy to see him going with the team to AFCON.”
