Munetsi’s value unaffected: French clubs eye ex-Pirates star after AFCON snub

Despite being controversially snubbed for the 2025 AFCON, Marshall Munetsi’s value hasn’t dipped as French clubs are reportedly queuing up to secure his services from English Premier League side Wolves.

The former Orlando Pirates man was left out of Zimbabwe’s AFCON squad due to an injury, though he claims he was fit to play their second group phase match against Angola.

Munetsi, the versatile star who this season was deployed as a false nine by former Wolves coach Vitor Pereira, is being targeted by French Ligue 1 clubs Paris FC, OGC Nice, and FC Nantes. Having joined Wolves in January 2025, Munetsi still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his initial contract.

However, French publication, Foot Mercato, revealed that the three clubs are keeping tabs on the Zimbabwean, who hasn’t featured for Wolves since December 2025.

“Munetsi is considered by coach Stéphane Gili [Paris FC coach] as the ideal addition to this area [midfield] of the pitch for the second half of the season. However, caution is advised, as several clubs are ready to compete with the Parisians, including FC Nantes and OGC Nice,” said Foot Mercato.

Simply put, if Wolves are to lose Munetsi, it would be a big blow as they are already thin in midfield, and his box-to-box energy would be tough to replace.

If a move materialises, it won’t be the first time he plays in France, having spent over five years at Stade Reims. He carved a niche at Stade Reims, making 159 appearances during his time at the club, registering 21 goals and 14 assists.

The 29-year-old joined Wolves from Reims in last year’s January transfer window, racking up 31 appearances, scoring four goals, and assisting two so far for the Premier League outfit.

Wolves have been struggling in the 2025/26 Premier League season, picking up just six points from 20 matches. They finally got their first win of the season on Saturday, January 3, after thrashing West Ham United 3-0.
