Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane has addressed his presence at the SAFA Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League side, Phezulu FC.

The 31-year-old has been a free agent since July 2025, following his departure from the Soweto giants. Despite signing a three-year deal with the Glamour Boys in June 2023 after a successful stint at Cape Town City FC, Mdantsane struggled to cement his place in the starting line-up.

His tenure included a brief loan spell at Richards Bay FC in January 2025, during which he made only three appearances, after which Chiefs opted to release him with a year remaining on his contract.

For the past few weeks, Mdantsane has been spotted training with Phezulu FC, joining a roster of experienced former PSL figures, including Jabulani Shongwe, Paseka Sekese, and Lehlohonolo Nonyane, among others.

His presence sparked rumours of a permanent move to the third-tier league, but the experienced midfielder has been quick to set the record straight.

MDUDUZI MDANTSANE CLARIFIES WHY HE HAS BEEN TRAINING WITH PHEZULU FC

Speaking to FARPost, the former Baroka FC star emphasised that his involvement with Phezulu is strictly about maintaining match fitness.

Mdantsane noted that the high intensity of the Mpumalanga-based outfit makes them the perfect training partners while he navigates his next career move.

“You know, there are rumours that are spreading, and I don’t understand why. But I just want to clarify the issue because I’m still without a club at the moment,” Mdantsane told FARPost.

“However, I do train with them because it’s a team that is based in my ‘Kasi’, you know. I asked to train with them [Phezulu FC] in order to keep fit, as I’m still unattached. They are playing in the ABC Motsepe League and are number one in their respective stream; they are competitive, more focused, and more energetic. So those are the reasons why I requested to train with them.

“I’m just training with them, so I’m assuming people see me training with them and conclude that I have signed with the team. I haven’t signed anything, and I’m still looking for another club. In the meantime, I’m just making sure that I don’t lose my touch while looking for another team to sign with.”

With his pedigree as a creative midfielder and a former PSL standout, Mdantsane remains one of the most high-profile free agents currently on the market. For now, Mdantsane wants to stay ready so that when the right call comes, he can hit the ground running, as he eyes a return to top-flight football.
