Pirates part ways with Olisa Ndah

Orlando Pirates have announced a shocking decision to part ways with talented defender Olisa Ndah in the current January transfer window.

The Nigerian international has been missing in action at Pirates for over a year after sustaining a long-term injury in the previous Betway Premiership season. Ndah recently returned to full fitness at Pirates, and he featured in the Carling All Stars Cup in a centre-back pairing with Thabiso Sesane before the 2025 AFCON break in December.

The highly-rated defender has always produced solid performances for Pirates when he’s called upon in the starting line-up; however, his time at the club was marred by injuries.

Ndah joined Pirates in August 2021 from Nigerian top division side Akwa United, the club he helped to clinch their first-ever league title. During his time with the Sea Robbers, the towering defender featured in 81 appearances across all competitions and chipped in with one goal.

Ndah has been competing with players such as Nkosinathi Sibisi, Tapelo Xoki, Thabiso Sesane, and Lebone Seema for a place in the starting line-up. In the current window, Pirates signed another centre-back, Mpho Chabatsane, pushing Ndah further down the pecking order.

On Thursday, Pirates announced the departure of Ndah, revealing that the 28-year-old requested an early release from his contract that would have ended in June 2026.

โ€œThe Nigerian international requested an early release from his contract, a decision that follows careful and respectful discussions between the player and the Clubโ€™s management. Central to these conversations was a shared understanding to afford Ndah the opportunity to secure regular game time elsewhere as he enters the next phase of his career.

โ€œNdah, 28, joined the Buccaneers in 2021 and quickly established himself as a commanding presence at the heart of defence. Strong in the tackle, assured in possession, and uncompromising in his commitment, he brought both steel and composure to the backline during a pivotal period for the club.

โ€œOver the course of more than 80 appearances at the club, Ndah consistently embodied the values of Orlando Pirates. On the pitch, he was dependable and disciplined; off it, he was a model professional who represented the badge with distinction.

โ€œThe club respects Ndahโ€™s desire for increased minutes on the field and acknowledges his honest engagement with management throughout the process. It is in this spirit of mutual respect that an amicable decision was reached.

โ€œOrlando Pirates Football Club would like to thank Olisa for his professionalism, dedication, and service to the club. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career, both on a personal level and in his continued journey in the game.โ€
