Another former Kaizer Chiefs star set to return to Zimbabwe

Another ex-Kaizer Chiefs star is set to make his return to Zimbabwe, joining stars Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona, who are already in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

Billiat returned to Zimbabwe in February 2024 to join Yadah FC in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League. The return was ultimately meant to revive his career after failing to find a new club in South Africa.

That was after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs in June 2023. At Yadah FC, he emerged on top, making 15 goal contributions and earning a place among the season’s Best XI. When his contract lapsed, Billiat joined 2025 champions Scottland FC.

In July 2025, he was joined by another ex-Kaizer Chiefs star, Musona, who was returning to Zimbabwe after 16 years. His last contract was with Al-Okhdood Club in the Saudi Pro League.

Musona returned to Zimbabwean football, signing for Scottland FC following the expiration of his contract in Saudi Arabia. The forward, who previously played in the Bundesliga and for Chiefs, brought significant experience to his new club, helping them win the league in their maiden season.

However, it has now emerged that another former Chiefs son, Ovidy Karuru, is on the verge of completing a return home, having left 17 years ago when he was signed by French side US Boulogne from Masvingo United.

Karuru’s lengthy career beyond Zimbabwe’s borders has seen him play in France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, China, and South Africa. In the Betway Premiership, he played for Chiefs, AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch FC, and Black Leopards FC.

Many thought ‘The Mosquito’, as he is fondly known, had retired; however, he told FARPost that he is still actively playing at 37. “I haven’t retired, but I can’t tell what will happen tomorrow. Soon, I will be playing again,” Karuru said.

Most recently, he was spotted participating in an invitational tournament in China. In Zimbabwe, he is being linked with Manica Diamonds, but Scottland FC is his desire.
