Chippa United have unveiled former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Katlego Mohamme for the remainder of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

The Chilli Boys have been beefing up their squad in the 2026 January transfer window to have a strong finish to the second round of the campaign. They already signed Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Bongani Sam.

Chippa are currently fighting to survive relegation after having an inconsistent first-half of the season. The underwhelming run of form saw the club make coaching changes four times after Sinethemba Badela, Musa Nyatama, and Luc Eymael were in the hot seat before appointing Vusumuzi Vilakazi to steer the ship and fight to survive relegation.

The Eastern Cape-based side is occupying 14th position on the league table with only 15 points in 17 matches played. United collected maximum points three times, played six draws, and suffered eight defeats.

In a bid to solidify their defense, Chippa have announced the signing of Mohamme on loan for the remainder of the season. The talented centre-back is joining Chippa on loan from Sekhukhune United, where he struggled for game-time under head coach Eric Tinkler.

Mohamme signed with Sekhukhune two seasons ago after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. The 28-year-old defender also featured for clubs such as SuperSport United, AmaTuks, and Maroka Swallows in the PSL.

While Chippa will be banking on the defender to hit the ground running and strengthen their backline, Mohamme will also be looking to bring his career back on track after starving for game-time in the past few months.

In the current season, Mohamme only featured once for Babina Noko in the MTN8 before falling down the pecking order. Eric Tinkler has preferred players such as Bright Ndlovu, Daniel Cardoso, and Tresor Yamba Yamba in the centre-back position.

On Friday morning, Chippa announced the arrival of Mohamme on loan from the Limpopo-based outfit. “Welcome to the Chilli Boys, Katlego Mohamme,” Chippa said on social media.

“A rock at the back joins the family as the defender arrives on loan from his parent club, Sekhukhune United FC. New chapter. New colours. Same hunger.”
