With the two sides set to lock horns in the Betway Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has identified the key threats that make Durban City FC such a formidable opponent.

Amakhosi will host Durban City at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon, looking for redemption after a recent slump that saw them suffer four defeats across all competitions.

Chiefs are winless in the last four matches, losing against Zamalek SC in the final match of the CAF Confederation Cup group stages to crash out of the competition. In the league, the Glamour Boys have lost against Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates, and Richards Bay FC, leaving the club’s supporters disgruntled by the underwhelming run of form.

Chiefs co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have faced heavy criticism, with fans calling for the duo’s sacking amid the club’s unconvincing performances.

Kaze and Ben Youssef were entrusted with the big task of steering the ship at Chiefs after the club parted ways with head coach Nasreddine Nabi in September 2025.

Since stepping into the hot seat, the co-coaching duo has struggled to find a winning formula, evidenced by early exits from both the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup. Their league form has been equally inconsistent; Amakhosi currently sit sixth in the standings, having collected 30 points from 18 matches—a return shaped by eight wins, six draws, and four defeats.

With Chiefs looking to return to winning ways against Durban City, Kwinika has explained what makes the KZN-based side a tough opponent, admitting that the club is well-coached. Chiefs have already collected maximum points against City after beating them 1-0 in the first round of the 2025/26 season.

“I think they [Durban City] are a well-coached team, they are organised, and they change shape within the game in terms of how they play. Sometimes they stay a bit back and then in moments they go out in transition,” Kwinika said.

“So it’s not a team that’s easy to say you know how they’ll come on the day. So based on that, we have to prepare well. We have been trying to prepare for all phases of the game, which gives us an opportunity to do what’s required on the day and deal with situations as they arise.”
