Kaizer Chiefs Ladies are eyeing the top flight—and head coach Unathi Mabena has revealed exactly when the club expects to gain promotion from the Sasol League to the Hollywoodbets Super League.
Mabena made history as the first-ever head coach of the newly launched Amakhosi women’s side, which boasts an initial squad depth of 24 players.
The Chiefs Ladies’ side is set to begin its journey in the Sasol League, the second tier of women’s football in South Africa.
The team was officially unveiled on Tuesday, 31 March, in Daveyton, marking a significant milestone for the Soweto giants.
Chiefs’ Ladies will host their home fixtures at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena. They will also play some of their games at Kwa Thema Stadium in Springs. Mabena will lead the technical team, assisted by coach Justice Khunou.

UNATHI MABENA ON KAIZER CHIEFS LADIES’ PROMOTION TIMELINE
With the club just venturing into South African women’s football, Mabena revealed that they are targeting promotion to the Hollywoodbets Super League within the next three seasons.
Speaking on the club’s long-term vision, Mabena emphasised that while the ultimate goal is to compete in the elite league, the immediate focus is on building a sustainable foundation.
“Well, the dream and the vision are to get promoted within a maximum of two to three seasons to see us in the Hollywoodbets Super League,” said Mabena.
“We have set that target for ourselves. However, if it happens sooner, then it’s a plus for us. We don’t want to put ourselves under pressure; we just want to stabilise ourselves in the league [Sasol League].
“This is a brand new team. So, we just need to stabilise ourselves and perform at the best level we can. Then, we will take it from there.”
Chiefs Ladies will look to replicate the success of their male counterparts and rivals who have established women’s teams. This includes teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Stellenbosch FC Ladies, and TS Galaxy Queens.
