Kaizer Chiefs stretched their winning streak to five matches in the Betway Premiership with a 4-1 triumph over Magesi FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening.
Another crucial victory for the Soweto giants as they completed a league double on Dikwena Tsa Meetse, who they beat 2-0 almost four weeks ago. But critically for Chiefs, they seriously presented their credentials to play continental football next season by collecting maximum points on the road.
Still placed third on the table, Amakhosi now have 10 points fewer than Orlando Pirates, who are second and have played a game more. Chiefs will take more comfort in the fact that they opened a six-point gap between themselves and AmaZulu FC, who are fourth on the log.
While Amakhosi are celebrating, basement side Magesi sank deeper into the relegation zone, where they have two points less than Orbit College FC, who are second from the bottom.
From the team that lost to Sekhukhune United last weekend, Magesi veteran coach Allan Freese thrust in right-back Tshepo Mashigo for suspended Pirates loanee Siyabonga Ndlozi. Central midfielder Kgothatso Mariba was also suspended, and had Motsie Matima stepping in.
Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel was back from suspension to partner Aden McCarthy in central defence, while Given Msimango was relegated to the bench. Satisfied with their frontrunners, Chiefs co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze retained Flavio da Silva to spearhead the attack.
He was being supported by Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba and Glody Lilepo. Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabang Sibanyoni had some threatening chances, shaking the Amakhosi defence in the opening stages, but was not precise in his efforts.
Freese was forced to make an injury-inspired substitution after 32 minutes when he pulled out Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Darpoh for ex-Chiefs star Kabelo Mahlasela.
MAGESI’S POOR DEFENDING SETS CHIEFS ON A WINNING PATH

A minute later, Chiefs got the breakthrough when Magesi defenders allowed Da Silva to control the ball and turn to shoot past Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze.
It was Da Silva’s seventh league goal of the season as he threw his hat into the PSL Golden Boot ring. Some shambolic defending further haunted the hosts, affording Wandile Duba some free space to shoot past Chipezeze with eight minutes to halftime.
The Glamour Boys remained determined to increase their lead, and Thabiso Monyane drew a brilliant save from Chipezeze in the 59th minute with a shot from an acute angle. Mduduzi Shabalala then threw the contest beyond Magesi’s reach when he finished off Reeve Frosler’s feed from the right in the 62nd minute.
However, the hosts pulled one goal back through Diteboho Mofokeng in the 69th minute, but hopes of a successful comeback remained slim.
Substitute Khayisa Mayo retained the three-goal advantage by heading in a beautiful delivery from Frosler with seven minutes remaining. It was the CR Belouizdad loanee’s first Chiefs goal since September 2025.
