Pitso Mosimane has taken a major step toward reshaping youth development in South African football after securing a status in the Gauteng Development League [GDL].

The Pitso Mosimane Youth Football [PMYF] has officially announced the acquisition of the East Rand Athletic FCโ€™s GDL status.

The move, effective as of 20 April 2026, marks a pivotal shift for the organisation, bridging the gap between mass-participation soccer schools and competitive play.

The GDL is widely regarded as the premier tier for youth football in the province. By securing this status, PMYF now offers a direct “pro-pathway” for athletes currently enrolled in the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools [PMSS] and Pitso Mosimane Football Club [PMFC].

The transition follows a formal agreement with East Rand Athletic Football Club. In accordance with SAFA regulations, the clubโ€™s GDL status has been transferred to PMYF, succeeding the tenure of former chairman Dr Khanyeza.

“East Rand Athletic FC was built to serve the community… I knew more experienced professionals needed to take the reins,” said Dr Khanyeza. “I am confident that PMYF is the right organisation to take this vision forward.”

PMYF has confirmed that the transition will prioritise stability. The organisation will retain current players and the core technical team, ensuring the clubโ€™s DNA remains intact while benefiting from the resources and methodology of the Mosimane brand.

Meanwhile, PMYF is opening its doors to new talent across the region. Open trials are scheduled for the following long weekends: 25-27 April and 1-3 May 2026.

Registration details, venues, and specific times will be available via PMYFโ€™s official social media channels. This includes WhatsApp, Instagram, X, Facebook, and TikTok.

The three-time CAF Champions League winner Mosimane described the move as a โ€œdefining moment for PMYFโ€.

โ€œWe have intentionally built each layer of our programme… this step allows us to connect everything into a meaningful pathway. It strengthens our offering to players, parents and partners,โ€ Mosimane said.
