Orlando Pirates star Oswin Appollis has opened up on his deadly combination with highly-rated attacker Relebohile Mofokeng as the Buccaneers chase the Betway Premiership title.
Appollis and Mofokeng have emerged as key players for the Soweto giants as the club pushes for the elusive league title. Pirates are currently in the driving seat of a high-stakes title race alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, following an emphatic 3-0 victory over AmaZulu FC at Orlando Amstel Arena last Saturday.
The Buccaneers moved to the summit of the log standings with 58 points in 25 games, leading Sundowns by two points. Masandawana are positioned second on the table with 56 points, having played 23 games due to their participation in the CAF Champions League.
In the match against AmaZulu, both Mofokeng and Appollis were on the score sheet while Yanela Mbuthuma scored the other goal to hand Pirates crucial maximum points at home.
The attacking duo has been the mainstay of the Piratesโ impressive run, having won the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup titles in the first round of the 2025/26 season. Mofokeng and Appollis have maintained their rich vein of form with over 30-goal contributions between them.
Appollis has made 38 appearances across all competitions for the Sea Robbers, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists, while Mofokeng has 11 goals and eight assists in 31 matches.

WHAT APPOLLIS SAID ABOUT SYNERGY WITH MOFOKENG
The Bafana Bafana international, Appollis, who joined Pirates at the start of the current campaign from Polokwane City FC, has built great on-pitch synergy with Mofokeng, tormenting defenders with their skill and pace.
Appollis has lifted the lid on his burgeoning partnership with the reigning PSL Young Player of the Season, revealing that being roommates has afforded them the opportunity to analyse matches and find ways to amplify their performances.
โObviously, it [relationship with Mofokeng] started before I even came to Pirates. We spoke, and when I came to Pirates, we became roommates. And that’s where the relationship grew,โ Appollis said.
โSo you know in the room weโre always talking about football, what we can do better, what we lack, and what we can improve on. A good thing is that we always take the information we have to the whole team.
โOther roommates also speak, they come to share with us, and what we can improve in the game. Overall, that’s the most important thing: we share things amongst each other.โ
