Tlisane Motaung refuses to concede Baroka FC relegation

Baroka FC head coach Tlisane Motaung has made interesting remarks regarding the club’s relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the amateur ranks in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League.

Their relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship was confirmed on Sunday following their 3-0 loss to Kruger United at the Mafori Village in Lebowakgomo.

The club is currently at the bottom of the log with 19 points, with three matches to go. This means that the 2018 Telkom Knockout champions can no longer accumulate enough points to reach the 14th place, which is currently occupied by Midlands Wanderers.

Baroka have the lowest number of wins [four], followed by neighbours Black Leopards, who won just five. Leopards are also fighting for survival and will be hoping the clubs above them drop points so they can survive.

Speaking after their match against Kruger, Motaung says he will only concede to relegation after the final match.

“I think that comment that you want me to give, I will give it only after the last match. I know the Motsepe Foundation Championship, it’s never over until the final whistle,” he told FARPost. “We have to remain professional and play the remaining three matches and try to get as many points as possible.

“I have not looked at mathematics, but as a professional, I have to play the remaining matches, then I will make a comment after we are closed.”

“Look, it’s not over until the final whistle. We are not happy with the results that we got today [Sunday], and obviously, we know our situation,” he added.

“It’s a very difficult situation where we find ourselves. But when one looks at the game [against Kruger], it was very clear that it was going to be difficult. To concede a corner kick that was not supposed to be, it was a clear foul at that moment.

“The next moment, we get a red card, which is not a red card early in the game. It becomes difficult, obviously, with one man short and playing a team that is number one in the league. So it already became difficult from that moment because now you have to manage situations. You can’t fully implement what you planned.”
