What Parker learned from Chiefs’ shock defeat to Galaxy in 2019

TS Galaxy interim coach Bernard Parker addressing the media during the Nedbank Cup media briefing

TS Galaxy interim coach Bernard Parker has opened up on how he plans to impart his knowledge to his players, drawing from his experience of both winning and losing the Nedbank Cup.

Parker will lead TS Galaxy in the final against Durban City FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

He recently took over from Adnan Beganovic, who was sacked by the club after a string of poor results. Parker won the Nedbank Cup during his time at Kaizer Chiefs during the 2012/13 season.

He was also on the losing side when Amakhosi suffered a shock defeat to TS Galaxy at Moses Mabhida Stadium in 2019.

HOW BERNARD PARKER MOTIVATES HIS PLAYERS AHEAD OF THE FINAL

The 40-year-old has spoken about how important it is to remind the players that winning the competition can change their lives.

“The good thing about it is that when I tell the players about the Nedbank Cup, I get to explain to them what it’s like to be in the final,” he told Journalists.

“I get to explain to them the experience of the final. It’s because I come from that as a player. So it’s just more stronger to the players and I have also won the Nedbank Cup as a player.

“I actually scored in the final towards the dying minutes. I scored in the final for us to lift the Nedbank Cup. I was also at the losing end as well against the very same team that I am coaching today,” he explained.

“So it’s just to make sure that players understand how massive this is and also how it impacts their lives massively as well.”

The clash between Galaxy and Durban City will kick-off at 18:00 with tickets selling at R50 each.
