Chiefs confirm surprise venue change for final league game

Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United in action

Kaizer Chiefs have announced a surprise decision to move their final Betway Premiership match against Chippa United to Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium later this month.

Amakhosi were scheduled to take on the Chilli Boys at FNB Stadium on the 23rd of May 2026; however, the Soweto giants decided to move the clash to KZN province.

Chiefs have four matches remaining before wrapping up the 2025/26 season, and they are fighting to finish in third spot on the league table in order to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Glamour Boys have hit a dip in form in the past few weeks after having a streak of three matches without collecting maximum points. In their previous game, Chiefs suffered a 2-0 defeat against Siwelele FC at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Prior to their setback against Siwelele,  Chiefs recorded back-to-back draws against Richards Bay FC and arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby. This followed an impressive seven-match unbeaten streak, including five consecutive victories—a run of form that initially propelled the Glamour Boys into the heat of the top-three conversation.

However, despite their recent dip in form, Amakhosi currently occupy third position on the log. They have amassed 47 points from 26 matches, having recorded 13 wins, eight draws, and five defeats in the current Betway Premiership campaign.

The Naturena-based outfit is determined to secure a strong finish to the season to guarantee a top-three finish. This would facilitate a return to CAF continental football, following their 2025/26 campaign participation, which was secured by clinching the 2025 Nedbank Cup.

Chiefs face a daunting final stretch, with high-stakes fixtures against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United, AmaZulu FC, and Chippa United still to come. These four remaining matches represent a significant test of the club’s mettle within a compact three-week window.

After the heartbreak of missing out on a top-eight finish for a second successive season last year, the pressure is on the Soweto giants to ensure they don’t falter at the final hurdle this time around.
