Siwelele FC turn to Pedro Dias after missing out on Steenbok

Siwelele FC have stepped up their search for a sporting director, with Pedro Dias emerging as a leading candidate following a recent meeting with the club’s hierarchy, FARPost has learnt.

The Bloemfontein outfit had initially targeted Walter Steenbok for the role for next season. However, those plans fell through after Steenbok opted to join Sekhukhune United, forcing Siwelele to explore alternative options.

Steenbok was spotted at their league game against Orlando Pirates and friendly matches weeks before settling for the Babina Noko role. The Limpopo club recently announced he was taking over as Director of Football Strategy.

Dias has now entered the frame, with indications that discussions between the two parties have taken place in recent days.

The Portuguese-born football administrator is set to become available at the end of the current campaign following his confirmed exit from AmaZulu FC.

AmaZulu announced that both Dias and assistant coach Simo Dladla will leave the club at the conclusion of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season, as part of a broader restructuring of the club’s football department.

Dias, meanwhile, has been overseeing all football operations at AmaZulu since his arrival in October 2023. His impending departure comes after the club resolved to discontinue the director of football role in favour of a more integrated management structure.

Siwelele are currently 11th, with five games to go before the end of the season. Under the tutelage of Lehlohonolo Seema, they have grown into a steady club after a poor start.

They have lost only once in the last 12 games, as Seema has steered them away from the relegation zone. On Wednesday, they welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein. Chiefs are on a seven-match unbeaten run and will look to extend it as they fight for a top-three finish.

Thereafter, they face Durban City FC, Mamelodi Sundowns, Magesi and Sekhukhune United to close the season.
