Polokwane City FC head coach Phuti Mohafe has slammed Mamelodi Sundowns over the treatment he described as ‘inhuman’ after his troops lost 3-0 against the Tshwane giants in a league tie on Sunday afternoon.
Mohafe and his charges suffered a heavy defeat in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria with goals from Iqraam Rayners, Tashreeq Matthews, and Nuno Santos.
The Brazilians broke the deadlock with a goal from a header courtesy of Rayners to go into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead. As Masandawana went all out for a win, Matthews and Santos scored the other two goals in the second stanza to give the home side crucial points in the title race.
Sundowns extended their lead at the summit of the league table to five points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates. Downs have accumulated 64 points in 27 matches, while the Sea Robbers are on 59 points with one game in hand.
WHAT PHUTI MOHAFE SAID ABOUT SUNDOWNS’ TREATMENT
Speaking after the match, Phuti Mohafe has revealed that Sundowns gave them ‘bad treatment’ without sharing the details on what Miguel Cardoso’s charges have done. Rise and Shine suffered back-to-back defeats against the Chloorkop-based outfit after going down with a 1-0 scoreline against the same opponents at Seshego Stadium last week.

“We played a match, and we lost. That was a very bad reception from hosts; they were not so human today [Sunday], and that is not good at all,” Mohafe claimed. “You cannot treat your visitors like that,”
“But going into the match, we tried our level best, and we failed. We made bad decisions, but we can learn from them. I think we had a better first-half defensively, even though we conceded a poor goal, not marking well in the box.
“In the second-half, you want to equalise, and you open the back door. So I can say that for us wanting a draw opened the floodgates. From then, Sundowns had a good passage of football, going through the middle, while we wanted them to go wide because they are not so good on the flanks.
“If you allow them space in the middle, you will be exposed, so they exposed us in those moments of them scoring, but I think our goalkeeper [Lindokuhle Mathebula] kept us in the game; we should have lost maybe by five or six goals.”
