Chiefs and Sundowns set to miss key players for crucial fixtures

Kaizer Chiefs in action against Mamelodi Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns are set to miss key players in their upcoming Betway Premiership matches this weekend.

Sundowns and Chiefs will be looking to return to winning ways after playing to a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night. The two giants shared spoils with Flavio Silva scoring for Amakhosi while Brayan Leon was on the score sheet for Masandawana.

The stalemate saw Sundowns drop crucial points in the entertaining title race with Orlando Pirates. Downs missed a huge opportunity to open a five-point gap over the Buccaneers, who won their midweek match against Stellenbosch FC with a 2-0 scoreline.

However, Sundowns remained at the summit of the league table with 65 points, having registered 19 wins, eight draws, and only a single defeat across 28 matches. They currently lead Pirates—who possess a game in hand—by two points, as the intense title chase officially heads down to the wire.

On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs are locked in a fierce battle with AmaZulu FC for third spot in a bid to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup next season. The Glamour Boys are currently sitting third on the log with 48 points, while AmaZulu are fourth after collecting 43 points with three matches left before the end of the season.

With the Premiership promising yet another spectacle in the coming weekend, Sundowns and Chiefs will be without the services of Jayden Adams and Siphesihle Ndlovu, respectively. Miguel Cardoso’s charges will lock horns with Siwelele FC on Saturday, while the Naturena-based side will take on Sekhukhune United on Sunday.

Adams’ season in the Premiership is over, having received a red card against Chiefs that will see him sidelined for two matches. Meanwhile, Ndlovu will sit out for one match after accumulating his fourth yellow card of the campaign against the Tshwane giants.

Other players that will miss the weekend action due to suspension are Keegan Allan, Motsie Matima, Tshepo Rikhotso, Yanga Madiba, and Omega Mdaka.
