Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has addressed Glody Lilepo’s disappointing red card against AmaZulu FC in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, following the winger’s match-winning goal turned dismissal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Amakhosi defeated Usuthu in the league in Durban, collecting maximum points courtesy of a solitary goal from Lilepo. The Soweto giants had a slow start to the match, struggling to create scoring chances in a first half that saw the encounter go into the break deadlocked at 0-0.
However, Chiefs switched gears in the second half as they pushed for a crucial breakthrough to walk away with all three points on the road. The goal eventually came for the Naturena-based side via a clean strike from Lilepo in the 68th minute. The 28-year-old then suffered a rush of blood to the head during his goal celebration, taking off his shirt.
Having been cautioned just a few minutes before scoring, Lilepo’s decision to remove his jersey earned him a second yellow card. As a result, the winger was given his marching orders, leaving his side to see out the match with 10 men.
WHAT KAZE SAID ABOUT LILEPO’S RED CARD

As a result of the red card, the DR Congo attacker will miss the final match of the campaign against Chippa United, as well as the opening match of the 2026/27 season, as part of his two-match suspension.
After the final whistle, Cedric Kaze reflected on the attacker’s mixed afternoon, conceding that emotions ran high but maintaining that the player should have known better than to risk a second booking.
“I will say that this group of players has grown so much throughout the season; they played in the CAF Confederation Cup, travelled, and now you can see that they think together,” said Kaze. “It is true that it was unfortunate that we had to play the last 20 minutes with a man down, but we were not really in danger as we controlled the game and defended well.
“It is unfortunate what happened to Lilepo. He is a player with a lot of experience, so he should know better because he had already been booked in the first half, but it is football. I understand his emotions—he scored, and a human being without emotions is not a human being. We got the three points, all is good, and we just need to concentrate on the last game against Chippa.”
