The final throw of the dice: How Magesi FC can still defy the drop on the final day

Despite languishing at the bottom of the Betway Premiership, Magesi FC remain confident of avoiding the dreaded chop ahead of this weekend’s final match of the season, with club public relations officer Abel Rakoma stating that the team is ready to defy the odds.

Magesi will face Richards Bay FC in a must-win clash at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday, 23 May 2026. A draw or defeat will see them demoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after just two seasons in the elite league. However, their survival also depends on the results of other relegation-threatened teams.

For Magesi to avoid automatic relegation, they will be hoping that Orbit College FC lose to Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium and that Marumo Gallants also suffer heartbreak when they take on Stellenbosch FC.

Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated clash, which kicks off at 15:00 CAT, the club’s public relations officer, Abel Rakoma, says everyone in the team has their fingers crossed and fully understands the significance of the match.

“We have been speaking with the players for the entire week after our game against Siwelele FC [1-0 defeat last Saturday],” Rakoma told FARPost.

“We have been talking to them collectively and individually. It’s a matter that we will continue to do until Saturday. They are also aware that they have only 90 minutes at their disposal to make or to break it.”

ABEL RAKOMA IS CONFIDENT THAT THE PLAYERS ARE AWARE OF WHAT IS AT STAKE ON SATURDAY

“We are hard at work in preparation for the weekend game, the boys and the morale are high,” he added. “We believe in a better outcome for the upcoming weekend. It will not be an easy thing, but we appeal to all our supporters to come in great numbers because when the grandstand is full, the players get motivated.

“So we are crossing our fingers that this particular time we must be able to get maximum points, not only maximum points but coupled with many goals.”
