Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Katlego Mohamme is facing another uncertain chapter in his career, with indications that Sekhukhune United are unlikely to retain the defender beyond the end of his contract in June.
The former South Africa youth international’s situation paints a concerning picture for a player once regarded as one of the promising young defenders in local football.
Despite being under contract at Sekhukhune, the club sent him out on loan to Chippa United in January in search of regular game time. However, the move has failed to revive his fortunes.
The 28-year-old made just two appearances during his loan spell at Chippa, one in the Betway Premiership and another in the Nedbank Cup, with sources indicating the Eastern Cape side were not convinced enough to pursue a permanent move.
What makes the situation more difficult is the lack of game time Mohamme has accumulated over the past three seasons. The left-footed centre-back has managed only 16 starts across that period.

This past campaign was particularly difficult, as he started just one match for Sekhukhune before the loan switch. FARPost understands Sekhukhune still holds an option to extend the defender’s contract, but there has been no indication from the club that they intend to activate it.
Instead, Babina Noko are believed to be exploring new defensive options ahead of the 2026/27 season.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED PLAN DANIEL CARDOSO LONG-TERM REPLACEMENT
The Limpopo side has been linked with a young defender from a Motsepe Foundation Championship side. They are actively looking for a long-term successor for veteran defender Daniel Cardoso, further casting doubt over Mohamme’s future at the club.
For Mohamme, the next few weeks could prove decisive. His management team is expected to begin exploring options to help him finally secure consistent minutes and stabilise a career that has struggled to gain momentum since his professional debut.
He came through the development structures of SuperSport United before later joining Mamelodi Sundowns. With Sekhukhune appearing ready to move in a different direction, Mohamme now faces a crucial period that could determine whether he can still reignite a career many once expected to flourish.
