Siwelele FC are set for a squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, with experienced campaigners Lyle Lakay, Pogiso Sanoka and Kgaogelo Sekgota among a group of players leaving the club when their contracts expire at the end of June.
FARPost has established that the trio will leave the Bloemfontein-based outfit when their contracts expire at the end of June. Lakay’s departure comes after a frustrating campaign in which the former PSL Defender of the Season played just over 300 minutes across all competitions. The club has opted not to renew the 34-year-old’s contract, making him a free agent from July.
The veteran left-back boasts of one of the most decorated CVs in local football, having featured in more than 400 top-flight matches for Bloemfontein Celtic, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City and Siwelele. During his successful stint at Sundowns, Lakay won five league titles, an MTN8, and a Nedbank Cup.
Sanoka is also set to depart after serving as one of the club’s experienced figures during the campaign. The defender forms part of a broader clear-out as Siwelele look to free up space for new arrivals ahead of their second season in the top flight.
WHY KGAOGELO SEKGOTA’S SIWELELE STAY HAS BEEN SHORT-LIVED
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger, Sekgota, is another player heading for the exit door after joining the club in January in search of regular football and a fresh start. The 28-year-old made eight appearances and scored one goal during his brief stint. Despite showing flashes of his talent, his stay is set to be short-lived.
Once regarded as one of South Africa’s brightest attacking prospects, Sekgota has enjoyed spells with Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC, Bidvest Wits and Portuguese side Vitória Setúbal. Across his senior career, he has amassed 161 appearances, six goals and 10 assists.
Buhle Mkhwanazi and striker Samir Nurkovic are also expected to leave when their contracts expire. Mkhwanazi made three appearances at the start of the season and did not play again. Nurkovic, on the other hand, featured four times for the newly established club. The two are reportedly considered surplus to requirements.
Meanwhile, highly rated youngster Bohlale Ngwato is on the verge of joining Orlando Pirates, with the Buccaneers understood to have won the race for his signature.
