Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat are keeping a close eye on Kaizer Chiefs forward Glody Makabi Lilepo amid growing speculation surrounding his future at Naturena.

The DR Congo international recently fueled exit speculation by posting cryptic messages on his Instagram stories, including “leaving bye” and “bye bye.”

One post featured departing Chiefs goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, while another included goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, prompting supporters to question the winger’s future. FARPost understands that the 28-year-old has become increasingly frustrated at Naturena, feeling underappreciated despite being one of the club’s most influential players since his arrival in January 2025.

CAF Champions League finalists AS FAR Rabat have made inquiries about the player, and the army side is understood to be a keen admirer. Lilepo is also aware of the interest and is open to exploring a move if the opportunity arises.

Internal dressing room dynamics may be fueling the discontent. Sources indicate that during a squad meeting toward the end of the season, an academy graduate reportedly questioned certain selection decisions. Lilepo’s name featured heavily, with the graduate allegedly arguing that the winger received favourable treatment from co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, frequently remaining on the pitch despite below-par performances.

WHY A GLODY LILEPO TRANSFER FROM KAIZER CHIEFS TO AS FAR RABAT IS UNLIKELY

Despite the mounting interest, a move away from Soweto appears unlikely at this stage. Amakhosi are not actively looking to sell and remain in a strong bargaining position. Lilepo joined Chiefs from French side Valenciennes FC on a two-and-a-half-year deal after the club paid a reported R9.6 million transfer fee. His contract runs until June 2027, with Chiefs holding an option to extend for a further year. Consequently, any suitor would need to present a substantial financial offer to persuade the club to part with a key asset.

As it stands, Chiefs have received no formal offers and continue to view the winger as central to their project.

Statistically, Lilepo has been Chiefs’ standout performer, contributing 15 goals and five assists in 56 appearances. He played a crucial role in ending the club’s decade-long trophy drought by winning the 2025 Nedbank Cup, and remained pivotal during the 2025/26 campaign, helping Chiefs secure a third-place finish in the Betway Premiership to qualify for both the MTN8 and the CAF Confederation Cup.

Former co-coach Cedric Kaze recently shed light on their close working relationship and his role in bringing the Congolese international to South Africa. Speaking on MSW, the Burundian mentor said: “Glody is a player we wanted to bring when we were still in Tanzania [Young Africans]. Without saying a lot of things, or trying to put flowers on myself, I’d say I played a big part for him to come to Kaizer Chiefs.

“I tried to smooth things between the management and himself and his people. It’s a player who speaks French and doesn’t speak English very well. He could speak to Khalil [Ben Youssef] or me in French, and we would help him. He’s a player that I played a very big part in bringing to Kaizer Chiefs.”
