Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu emerge as frontrunners for Namibian star Bethuel Muzeu

Bethuel Muzeu is edging closer to a long-awaited move to the Betway Premiership, with Sekhukhune United and AmaZulu FC emerging as the leading contenders for the signature of the highly rated Namibian international.

The 26-year-old forward is expected to be among the most sought-after free agents in South African football following Black Leopards’ relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to the ABC Motsepe League.

FARPost understands that both Sekhukhune and AmaZulu have intensified their interest in Muzeu, and that they are currently frontrunners in the race to secure his services ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Muzeu has long been admired by top-flight clubs, but a lengthy contract at Black Leopards previously complicated any potential move. However, the club’s relegation to amateur football has dramatically altered the situation, allowing the Namibia international to leave as a free agent.

The versatile attacker enjoyed another productive campaign despite Leopards’ struggles, scoring eight goals before an injury cut his season short in March. His performances once again underlined why he has remained one of the Championship’s most consistent attacking threats.

WHY MUZEU IS ATTRACTING BETWAY PREMIERSHIP INTEREST

One of Muzeu’s biggest strengths is his versatility across the frontline. Although naturally a striker, he is equally comfortable playing as a second forward, right winger or left winger, making him an attractive option for clubs seeking to strengthen multiple attacking positions.

His qualities were also evident on the international stage at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a prominent role for Namibia as the Brave Warriors reached the Round of 16.

Sekhukhune are understood to view Muzeu as an ideal addition to bolster their attacking department, following another season in which they challenged for continental qualification. AmaZulu, meanwhile, are expected to strengthen their forward line after the departure of experienced striker Thabiso Kutumela and have identified Muzeu as one of their key targets.

Stellenbosch FC and newly promoted Kruger United have also been linked to the former Leopards star, although indications are that Sekhukhune and AmaZulu currently lead the chase.

With his contractual situation expected to be resolved following Leopards’ drop into the amateur ranks, a decision on Muzeu’s future is anticipated in the coming weeks, as Premiership clubs position themselves to secure one of the league’s most attractive free agents.
