SV Ried step up Jaedin Rhodes pursuit with improved bid

Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried have stepped up their pursuit of Cape Town City FC attacker Jaedin Rhodes by submitting an improved offer after their initial bid was rejected.

FARPost has learned that the Austrian outfit has returned to the negotiating table with a second proposal for the 23-year-old as they intensify efforts to bring him to Europe ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The renewed approach comes as SV Ried prepares for the imminent departure of Antonio van Wyk, who is set to join Mamelodi Sundowns after spending two seasons in Austria. Sources close to the deal indicate that Cape Town City rejected the Austrian club’s initial offer, but Ried have now returned with an improved package that is currently under consideration.

The latest development significantly increases the likelihood that Rhodes will finally secure a move abroad after years of attracting interest from both local and international clubs.

The timing of Ried’s renewed interest comes shortly after Cape Town City’s failure to secure an immediate return to the Betway Premiership. The Citizens’ hopes of promotion were effectively ended following a 1-1 draw with Magesi FC in the PSL Promotional/Relegation playoffs, leaving Rhodes facing another season outside South Africa’s top flight.

The player is understood to be open to a move, with a European opportunity viewed as an attractive next step in his career.
Rhodes has been a key figure for City since earning promotion from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side in 2022, establishing himself as one of the most consistent attacking players in the squad.

The Austrian side’s assistant coach, Moritz Kossmann, is familiar with Rhodes and has reportedly played a significant role in the club’s pursuit of the player.

This is not the first time Rhodes has been linked with SV Ried. Rhodes signed a contract extension with Cape Town City in 2025 that runs until 2028.

The attacker has also been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Sundowns in recent seasons, but SV Ried are now making the strongest push yet to secure his signature.
