Raja Club Athletic turn to Nasreddine Nabi after Fadlu Davids exit

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi

Former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Nasreddine Nabi has arrived in Casablanca to complete the final paperwork on his appointment as Raja Club Athletic head coach, FARPost can reveal.

The Tunisian coach has already reached an agreement with the Moroccan giants on a deal running until the end of next season and will succeed Fadlu Davids at the helm of the Green Eagles. With all major terms agreed, Nabi’s appointment is now a matter of completing the remaining formalities before Raja make the announcement official.

Nabi’s impending arrival comes at a crucial stage of the Moroccan season, with Raja seeking stability after parting ways with Davids.

The South African coach’s exit followed Raja’s 2-0 defeat away to KAC Marrakech on Tuesday, a result that intensified pressure on the former Simba SC mentor. Davids had seen Raja slip to fifth place in the Botola Pro standings despite remaining within touching distance of the summit.

The Green Eagles trail league leaders RS Berkane by only four points, but recent defeats against Berkane, Wydad AC and KAC Marrakech ultimately proved costly.

Raja confirmed Davids’ departure on Friday morning, announcing that the two parties had agreed to go their separate ways as the club looks to reignite its title challenge. The decision comes amid one of the most competitive Botola Pro title races in recent memory. Alongside Raja and Berkane, MAS Fes, AS FAR and Wydad remain firmly in contention, leaving little margin for error in the weeks ahead.

NABI RETURNS TO THE DUGOUT AFTER CHIEFS EXIT

Nabi’s last job was with Amakhosi, where he helped end a decade-long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup. He left the club early in the 2025/26 season and was succeeded by his assistants, Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, who stepped in as co-coaches.

The move to the 13-time Botolo Pro champions represents a return to familiar territory. He had a stint with AS FAR Rabat, guiding them to a second-place finish behind Raja. Prior to that, he won six trophies with Tanzania’s Young Africans in two seasons.

Raja’s hierarchy believes he is the right man to guide the club through the remainder of the title race. An official announcement is expected once the final contractual details are completed in Casablanca.
