Tshegofatso Mabasa has broken his silence on his next move after his highly publicised exit from the reigning Betway Premiership champions, Orlando Pirates.

Mabasa became a free agent following Pirates’ announcement of his departure ahead of the expiry of his contract on June 30, 2026. The talented forward closes a significant chapter in his career after spending seven seasons with the club, during which he won a handful of trophies, including a historic four successive MTN8 titles.

He initially joined the Soweto giants in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic, quickly establishing himself as a fan favourite.

Renowned for his lethal finishing, the 29-year-old left the Buccaneers on the brink of shattering Benedict Vilakazi’s all-time club scoring record of 58 goals, with the ‘Sniper’ ultimately netting 50 goals for the club.

In total, Mabasa made over 130 appearances across all competitions during his stint with Pirates. However, the Bafana Bafana international struggled for regular game time last season under the guidance of head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. The tactician preferred the likes of Yanela Mbuthuma and Evidence Makgopa to lead the line, prompting a loan move to Stellenbosch FC in the second half of the 2025/26 campaign in his quest for playing minutes.
