Chippa United have moved swiftly to snap up Hope FC star Obakhe Tshaya to bolster their squad for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

The Chilli Boys are strengthening their squad for the upcoming season to improve from their disappointing showing in the previous campaign.

Chippa survived relegation in the last match of the 2025/26 season after securing a 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban to finish 13th on the league table.

The Eastern Cape-based side struggled for consistent form last season, leading to six changes to their coaching staff. Chippa had Sinethemba Badela, Musa Nyatama, Luc Eymael, Vusumuzi Vilakazi, and Hlanga Dikeni at the helm before roping in Brandon Truter to lead the club in the last match of the season against Amakhosi.

Truter has seemingly convinced the Chippa hierarchy, led by Siviwe Mpengesi, to keep him for the 2026/27 season, and the club has already started assembling a squad capable of competing.

Chippa United has signed talented right-back Obakhe Tshaya, who was one of the outstanding players in the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs as Hope FC clinched promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Tshaya featured in all the matches in the playoffs for Hope FC, catching the eyes of several top-flight sides, but FARPost has learnt that the Gqeberha-based outfit won the race for the talented defender.

Before his impressive spell with Hope FC, the 22-year-old also had a stint with Cape Town Spurs during their time in the PSL before they were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of the 2024/25 season.

Meanwhile, Chippa United have also signed Ntuthuko Mlotshwa from Lerumo Lions FC after the striker finished the season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as a top goal-scorer with 13 goals.
